lauren's life,

Huge Sephora Haul!

Hey guys!

Sorry for the short hiatus I’ve been crazy busy between work and school lately. I have been uploading every week on my vlog channel and am trying to get a video out every week on my beauty channel as well now.

If you don’t follow me on Twitter on Instagram (which you should or else you’re missing out) I recently started back at Sephora almost 2 months ago which has reignited my makeup buying obsession. I made a collection of things I had purchased since starting again as well as a few on the more exciting things I received in gratis and made a huge summer makeup haul for you guys. I also have the second part of the haul ready to go to show off some new summer clothing, aka lots of bikinis, as well which will be out next week. Hope you guys enjoy!

Recent Reads

P1020467

It may not come off since I rarely talk about my love for it anymore and I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even had time to think straight recently but I absolutely love reading. I was an early reader as a kid and throughout high school I’d rather get a Chapter’s gift card for Christmas than one for the mall and had accumulated hundreds of books before I graduated. When I started university I was filling my reading time with text books and case studies instead of teen dramas and the fact that I was living in a tiny dorm room didn’t exactly give me an ideal housing situation for my books (although I must say I packed quite a few into my freshman dorm room).

Recently the Chapter’s on Robson in Vancouver had a massive liquidation since it’s closing and everything was 50% off. Although I felt like crying a little bit since I absolutely love that store I must admit I was pumped to pick up some new reads. I’ve only started on one of these so far so I don’t have any real opinions yet (believe me I will make an update post when I do) but I wanted to show these babies off.

The first one, and the one that I’ve actually started, is Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht. I was a huge fan of #GirlBoss and thought this was going to be along those lines so I decided to give it a shot. Another thing that intrigued me is that it was in the business section, compared to non-fiction or lifestyle which most others are filed under. I must say so far it has lived up to its name, it has the same vibe as Girl Boss but is a little more life guide and a little less memoir. I haven’t finished it yet but so far so good, and as I said I’ll keep you updated.

Next up is one that I’ve been looking to get my hands on for quite a while now but since it’s pretty recent it’s only available in hard cover, which inconveniently made it almost $30 Canadian which is a little steep for my student budget but reasonable when it was half off during the sale. I haven’t started this one yet but if you want a full description of It Was Me All Along check out the Amazon page here, but I’m also gonna give you my little summed up version of it. This is a memoir that depicts the author’s struggle with being overweight up until 20 and then trying to change her relationship with food and find herself in the process. I’ve read a few books that are along these lines and have really enjoyed them so I’m interested to see how I feel about this guy.

Last but not least is one that shows off my weird side that absolutely loves true crime (insert heart eyes emoji here). I stumbled upon the little wonder called Death by CannibalI own quite a few different weird true crime books and I’m a sucker for cheesy ones like this (also a sucker for crazy stories and cannibals tend all be a little insane). I haven’t started this one either, mostly because I don’t want to be seen in public reading this, but I have high hopes. There’s really nothing exciting to this besides lots of messed up true stories.

Healthy & Budget Friendly Grocery Haul

Guess who’s been slacking on posts… Shocking it’s me!

I promise I am in the middle of working on a few different actual blog posts but until then take a looksie at my newest YouTube videos where I show you a bunch food.

Haul: Sephora VIB Rouge Reception

Last Wednesday night I had the joy of being able to go to a VIB Rouge event help at Sephora stores all across Canada (I believe they had them in America but they were on the weekend) that went along with the 4X beauty insider points promotions going on. I’ve been to a VIB event before but this one was exclusive to Rouge clients and was a bit fancier than the one I went to before. As always they had adorable little name tags, water/coffee, and little red and white cupcakes (which were adorable). They had brand reps, were giving contour and highlighting based demos, and introduced the new lip IQ. I expected it to be something fancy but all they do is colour IQ you and use that code to match you with different lip products that match well with your undertones, apparently it worked though because they talked me into buying my match. The other perk of the reception was a free sample bag and VIB Rouge tote with a $50 purchase. So let’s move onto what I actually got…

P1020300

The first thing I picked up was a big ass bottle of Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. I received a small bottle for gratis around Christmas and have fallen in love since it’s one of the only cleansers I can use with my Clarisonic and that doesn’t sting my eyes. I was going to get the little one but then saw this 480ml on for less than double the price of the 250ml bottle and I couldn’t say no (I may even go exchange it for the 700ml bottle). No idea how I’m going to bring it back on my flight but I’ll make it work.

TooFacedMelted

The next is the lip product I mentioned before. After getting my lip IQ she asked if I was into daring colours (which I totally am) and got matched with this liquid lipstick from Too Faced, I got Melted Violet. I’m a sucker for something innovative and these had good reviews on Temptalia (like A+ god) so I splurged and picked it up. I must say I’m super disappointed. I don’t know if my lips just suck or not but within about 2 hours, no eating and only drinking out of a water bottle, the middle of my lips were flaky and it was wearing off. I don’t know if I got a bad one or if my lips just rejected the product for some reason but this did not work for me. I love the colour though so I think I’m going to go to Sephora when I’m back in Vancouver and try to find a better formula product to exchange it with.

JackBlackLipBalm

This one is boring but necessary. The weather here is crazy how and I’m prone to sunburns so I picked up the Jack Black lip balm in lemon (again because Temptalia raves about it). I haven’t tried it yet but I may do a full review when I do, let me know if you’d read a super basic lip balm review.

P1020298

The last thing picked up is a little weird. I had originally planned to pick up the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse since everyone loved it but after chatting with one of the artists (shout out to Kathy)she talked me into trying out the Vita Liberata self tanner than I had previously receive in gratis but never tried out since it was medium and I was scared of it. So instead of shelling out the $44 for a new system I just grabbed the “Everything under the sun tanning set” from Sephora’s house brand that come with a reusable mitt, exfoliating mitt, as well as a tan ‘eraser’ to use on your hands. The best part? It was on sale for only $6! She said it had just gone on sale and it wasn’t out on the floor anymore but she pulled from from the back for me and I’m super excited to give it a try.

P1020304

Now the most exciting part… SAMPLES. I swear I was willing to spend that $50 just to get the tiny bag of samples. This specific bag was an adorable leather bag with very subtle Sephora logos on it with the following products inside: Buxom’s Lash Mascara in Blackest Black, Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day Styling Treatment, Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar, Benefit’s Watts Up Highlighter, Clinique’s High Impact Mascara, Algenist’s Complete Eye Renewal Balm (the best part about this sample is the full size is only twice as big as this sample and retails for $81!), Escada Born In Paradise Eau de Toilette, and MUFE HD Blush in 410 (I also received a tiny Clinique acne solutions clinical clearing gel with my purchase).

So there you have it, my mini haul from the event. Hope you enjoyed!

Influenster Mystery Box Revealed!

Just over a week ago I received an adorable little box in the mail from my friends at Influenster. It contained 3 50ml mystery bottles labeled as shampoo, conditioner, and a split end serum from L’oreal Canada. That was it. No brand name, no nothing. They asked us to try the products out for a week then they would send us the actual packaging and more information on the products. All I can say about the package I got today was, oh my goodness! I was beyond thankful to receive the gorgeous box below in the mail yesterday.

Damage Repair

The box contained 4 different Garnier Fructis Damage Repair products. The shampoo, conditioner, split-end damage serum, and the strengthening reconstructing butter.

This line claims to “reconstruct hair strength 90% from root to tip and prevent future damage”. I’ve personally been using 3 of these products for the last week and I must say I kind of sort of love it. The first thing I noticed that I adored is the scent. If you’ve ever been to a high end salon and know that ‘salon’ smell, that’s what these products have. The scent, feel, and results of these are identical to the result I get from a more expensive brand.

The shampoo is interesting. It has the same consistency has any other shampoo but it doesn’t leave my hair feeling try, almost leaves it feeling more moisturized if that’s possible for a shampoo. At first I was taken aback because I’m used to the ‘squeaky clean’ feeling but it wasn’t greasy by any means. It feels like it doesn’t strip my hair which is great for anyone who already has dry or damaged hair.

My gosh, this conditioner. It’s actually the thickest conditioner I’ve ever used. It’s the feeling of a deep conditioner but it’s also not heavy. I have no idea how they did it but I’m happy with it!

For the split-end serum I’m spit, you like that pun I know.  I don’t have terribly damaged hair so that might be why I don’t noticed a massive difference but I honestly didn’t notice much. I do have slit ends but they’re completely because I haven’t cut my hair in over a year and I’m asking for it. I’m going to keep using it and we’ll see if I notice any more but as of right now I’m neutral about it.

So that’s pretty much it, a super fast review of the 3 I’ve tried. I also may do a a separate review or an updated one once I add the deep conditioner to my routine. Overall I’m super pleased with these products, plus hello I’m not going to say no to free conditioner. My hair isn’t greasy but isn’t dry with these guys and they feel very high end compared to other drug store brands. I’m not sure if these are already available in store or when they’re being released but if you have drier hair be sure to give this line a shot because I’m a thumbs up form me!
